Lollipop ImageANDROID 5.0.1 RELEASED TO AOSP, FACTORY IMAGES RELEASED – DETAILS

Update: The Android Open Source Project has just released the code repository for build number LXR22C, which is set to become android-5.0.1-r1. You can already flash Android 5.0.1 to select Nexus devices; Google has posted the Android 5.0.1 factory images for the Nexus 7 (2013) Wi-Fi, Nexus 9 and Nexus 10.
Since Android 5.0.1 just hit AOSP a few hours ago, there’s no word yet on exactly what the new update includes. Considering that it’s an x.x.1 update, it’s mostly got some under-the-hood improvements. The update is also supposed to fix a variety of issues with the initial 5.0 builds.
Earlier: Google officially released Android 5.0 Lollipop source code into the AOSP – Details
Date- Nov 4 ,2014
Google has officially released Android 5.0 Lollipop source code into the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). As Android 5.0 is now in AOSP, it means that all of Google’s code and files related to Lollipop is now available for download. The update is build LRX21M though its official release tag would be android-5.0_r1 when it ‘fully hits’.
Google officially released Android 5.0 Lollipop source code into the AOSP - Details
Device repositories have been added for the Nexus Player (fugu + kernel), Nexus 6 (shamu+kernel), and the Nexus 9 (flounder + kernel) There is also a new device repository named atv, most likely for the ADT-1 running Android TV.
Developers can also head over to the AOSP Git webpage to check out the code without having to sync it all (under the lollipop-release branch). This will enable custom ROM developers to build “real” Android Lollipop releases for their devices of choice, so users should expect some L goodness and L based custom ROMs for their devices soon enough. Once everything is uploaded, it’ll only be a matter of time before developers and many others begin playing around, bringing us hidden features and so much more.
Earlier – Android 5.0 Lollipop announced with Material Design and many new Features – Details
Date – 16th oct.
After being teased with advertisements and released through a developer preview at Google I/O this year, Android 5.0 that will be called as Lollipop has been made official by Google yesterday. Over 5,000 developer APIs have been released alongside the updated OS. Android 5.0 looks to be a bigger leap forward than the jump from Jelly Bean (Android 4.3) to Kit Kat (Android 4.4). It features improvements to the overall design, battery life, and more.
Android lollipop

FOLLOWING ARE THE SOME NEW FEATURES OF ANDROID 5.0 LOLLIPOP

Material design One of the most recognizable changes with Android 5.0 is a complete overhaul of Google’s design philosophy. Android 5.0 features “Material design” which gives a flat look for its UI and icons. Menus will also respond more intuitively, including context sensitive behaviour so you can work with fewer motions.
Better Notifications Lollipop will improve the way you receive new information. You now have an entirely new interface and look, with access to simple and useful settings like rotation lock, ringer level/silencing, and a brightness slider.  With a pull from the top, you get your latest notifications and with a second pull, you see your settings toggle to your important content. Calls will no longer interrupt movies or games.
Increased Battery Life Google has claimed that by upgrading to Android 5.0, battery life can be extended by up to 90 minutes even on your older devices. Google has been working on Project Volta for battery life improvements. It will utilize battery life better and more efficiently. Other new battery features include an estimated time left to charge fully, and an estimation of time left before you need to charge your device again.
New Quick Settings Google is trying to reduce the number of swipes which needed to access some of the important functions with new on/off toggles for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and location. It also includes built-in tools for flashlight, hotspot and screencast controls so that you can do away with many of the third parties apps that you had to rely on before.
Improved Security New Lollipop devices will come with encryption automatically turned on to protect data, and there’s also SELinux enforcing for all applications, which means Android will be better protected against malware. Android 5.0 also makes it easier to unlock your phone without the need to enter a PIN or trace a pattern.
Multi-user Options.  You can create a guest account, or if you and family member share a device, you can create an account for each of you, keeping all your things separate and secure.  Only you can log into your account and phone, and you can now use an Android watch to unlock your phone through proximity.
  • There are many other new features like letting the users plug USB microphones, speakers and myriad of other USB to the device.
  • Now with the update, Google has pushed support for 15 other languages making the total count more than 68.
  • Now you can use the OK Google on the device even when the screen of the device is off with the help of digital signal processing that is present in devices like Nexus 6 and Nexus 9.
  • Now there is support of 64 bit devices with the latest Lollipop update.
Android 5.0 will come preloaded on the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 while other devices will have to wait just a little bit before updates rollout. However, Motorola has already confirmed that the new Moto X, old Moto X, Moto G, and Moto E will receive the updated to Lollipop.
Earlier – Android 5.0 / 4.5 (Next Version) almost confirmed as Android Lollipop – September 19th, 2014
Update, September 19,2014 18:40 : Today we got an Instagram pic of googlenexus that clearly indicates that the next Android version will be Android Lollipop and the next Nexus device will be coming with this operating system. Below is the image that confirms the news and will be hoping that it will be rolled out very soon.
Android Lollipop
Updated September 20, 2014 14:20 : Note that the source was not official, as tipped by one of our readers.
It is expected that the Nexus devices will be launched with this OS and will be pushed out to older Nexus devices followed by the Google Play devices. We need to wait and see, what all new features will be coming with this new version of the OS.

Earlier – Android 5.0 / 4.5 (Next Version) to be named Android Lollipop, according to sources – Details – June 25, 2014
We have been treated with the Android 4.x version from many days and in the earlier weeks we have seen Google releasing the 4.4.3 Android update that was followed by the 4.4.4 version exactly after 16 days. This 4.4.4 updates was a bug fix that Google has sent to fix the security problem that was faced with the 4.4.3 update. Now Google is all set to release the next version, i.e. Android 5.0 in the Google I/O even that is scheduled for today.
Android Lollipop
In the event the new android version will be unveiled and most probably will be called as Lollipop following its trend of naming its new versions in the Alphabetical order. We are not sure of the version number name till now, but we should be getting the conformation very soon once the event gets started.

Earlier – Android 5.0 rumored to be named Lollipop or Lemon Cheesecake? Guess the Name! – April 5th, 2014
Time passes in a pace that you don’t realize the technology is moving ahead at par. Recently, Google had launched the Android 4.4 KitKat OS version, after it was all rumored that the next Android version is going to be called “Key Lime Pie”. The name won’t be used now, as Google follows the tradition of naming the Android versions in alphabetical order, thus it’s the letter “L” which would start the name for the next Android version.
We again aren’t sure if Google will be pushing out the new version as Android 5.0 or would stick to Android 4.5 as the major version, and the name as always is again a guessing game until Google comes up with it’s own surprising way of launching the OS version update. We have been hearing about the names “Lollipop” and “Lemon Cheesecake” for the next Android OS version, but there is nothing official as always from the makers of the OS.
If you are someone new to the world of Android, you might not know how Google names the Android versions. Here are the names Google has given to the previous Android versions.
  • Android 1.5: Cupcake
  • Android 1.6: Donut
  • Android 2.0.1: Eclair
  • Android 2.2: Froyo
  • Android 2.3: Gingerbread
  • Android 3.0: Honeycomb
  • Android 4.0: Ice Cream Sandwich
  • Android 4.1: Jelly Bean
  • Android 4.4: KitKat
Now, naming for the next one, either Android 4.5 or 5.0, would be starting with the letter L, and we have come up with the following suggestions, taken from our sources or directly from the world of Desserts.
  • Lollipop
  • Lemon Cheesecake
  • Lemon Meringue Pie
  • Lemon Pie or Lime Pie
  • Lemon Chiffon Cake
  • Lettuce Salad
These are just own guesses though. Who really knew that Google and Nestle would make a deal to promote each other while releasing the Android 4.4 KitKat OS last year. If something like that happens again, we won’t be surprised at all.
The new version of Android is expected to be released in the mid of 2014 and that would be a major update when Google should be announcing the next Nexus (Nexus 6) smartphone too, along with some other major announcements, which we are thinking, will include the devices and development around the Android Wear OS for the wearables.
What is your guess? what do you think would be the name given by Google for the next Android version? Drop your comments below!

Lollipop or KitKat with root/bootstrap

Lets just say we get root before L is released for the AT&T Note 4. What would you do? CF Auto Root - Will it wipe encrypted lollipop phones?

Hi all, I'm planning to root my encrypted Nexus 5 with Lollipop by the latest CF Auto Root. Is it still the case that encrypted phones will be wiped by CF Auto Root? I'm wondering if the latest CF Auto Root for Nexus 5 Lollipop will wipe my encrypted storage. It would be great if Chainfire could answer my question. Thanks! ...

ASUS quietly releases passively cooled GeForce GTX 750

ASUS quietly releases passively cooled GeForce GTX 750

ASUS has launched a passive Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 based graphics card. The ASUS GTX750-DCSL-2GD5 is said to offer both "superior stability" and zero noise. It is cooled via a DirectCU Silent dual-slot cooler including a pair of direct contact heatpipes.
We have seen two other add-in-board makers output similar fanless graphics cards this summer; Palit and ZOTAC. Palit released its KALM silent passive versions of both the GTX 750 and GTX750Ti, however ZOTAC didn't release a passive Ti version. At around the same time ASUS readied a semi-passive Strix cooling enhanced GTX 750 Ti graphics card but now the firm has released its first passively cooled GTX750.
ASUS says that the GTX750-DCSL-2GD5 is perfect for applications such as in a HTPC build. Its silence and ASUS's"advanced EMI shielding reduces electromagnetic interference by up to 66% for a stable signal, pin-sharp images and safer and healthier computing". ASUS Super Alloy Power keeps non-moving parts, that could be a possible source of noise, silent. These parts are also said to run cooler, waste less energy and offer 2.5X lifespan over traditional capacitors.
As mentioned in the intro, ASUS utilises its DirectCU Silent cooler design on this card. It’s a combined large heatsink with fins and copper heatpipe solution. It is claimed that this achieves "16% cooler performance than conventional passive cards".
ASUS GPU Tweak with Streaming is compatible with this card for monitoring and tinkering with video card setting and streaming your screen content in real time.
GTX750-DCSL-2GD5 Specifications

  • Graphics Engine: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750
  • Bus Standard: PCI Express 3.0
  • Video Memory: GDDR5 2GB
  • Engine Clock: GPU Boost Clock : 1085 MHz, GPU Base Clock : 1020 MHz
  • CUDA Core: 512
  • Memory Clock: 5010 MHz ( GDDR5 )
  • Memory Interface: 128-bit
  • Interface: DVI Output : Yes x 1 (DVI-I), HDMI Output : Yes x 1, Display Port : Yes x 1 (Regular DP), HDCP Support : Yes
  • Software: ASUS GPU Tweak & Driver
  • Dimensions: 7.9 " x 4.53 " x 1.5 " Inch, 20 x 13.5 x4 Centimeter

ASUS unveils GTX 980 ROG Matrix Platinum graphics card

ASUS unveils GTX 980 ROG Matrix Platinum graphics card
Hot on the heels of the recent ROG GTX 980 Poseidon launch ASUS is preparing another ROG-themed graphics card making use of Nvidia's GM204 Maxwell GPU. The new flagship Republic of Gamers product in question is the ASUS GTX 980 Matrix Platinum, and as with past Matrix Platinum models, ASUS focused on delivering some of the best power componentry and cooling solutions possible.
A completely custom PCB design allows ASUS to equip a 12+2 phase DIGI+ VRM with super-alloy components and black metallic capacitors. The Matrix Platinum cooler makes use of four matte-black heatpipes, two 10mm and two 8mm, which feed into a matte-black heatsink array. ASUS uses two fans, one of which one is a conventional axial-type and the other a hybrid axial-radial 'CoolTech' fan.
The GTX 980 GPU comes with a 1,342MHz boost clock, up from 1,216MHz on the Nvidia reference model, while the 4GB of GDDR5 memory retains the stock 7GHz effective frequency. That's certainly not the highest overclock on the market, though overclocking headroom should be plentiful given ASUS speedbins the GPUs for these cards.
ASUS further adds a few extras to the GTX 980 Matrix Platinum in the form of an ROG colour-coded LED load indicator, a memory defroster function for LN2 users, and a Safe Mode for recovering an unstable overclock. The display outputs include three DisplayPort, one HDMI and one dual-link DVI.
Pricing for the new flagship ROG graphics card has yet to be announced, but we think £550-575 seems likely given that the GTX 980 STRIX currently fetches £500.

ASUS closing in on MSI in gaming laptop arena

ASUS closing in on MSI in gaming laptop arena
This year we feel there has been a renewed focus on gaming orientated laptops by PC and systems builders. MSI was quietly carving a nice niche for itself as the default choice in this pretty lucrative segment of the PC market and it seems to have got noticed. Will it now be outgunned by bigger, more aggressive manufacturers or be able to hold up against the new gaming laptop onslaught?
News emanating from Taiwan's DigiTimes suggests that MSI might be soon overtaken, as the pole position gaming laptop supplier, by ASUS. On both companies home turf of Taiwan ASUS has now claimed 60 per cent of the gaming laptop market, says the industry news source. In markets outside of Taiwan ASUS is said to be hot on the heels of MSI. China, Europe, North America and Southeast Asia got specific mentions as to where ASUS was gaining rapidly on its rival.
DigiTimes analysis suggest that ASUS's change of strategy to make gaming laptops which aren't confined to the top end could be the key to its recent success. Moving from the high-end to better price/performance ratios is the change that has done its sales the most good, it says.
Looking at the ASUS gaming laptop product mix, it is currently offering seven such portable computers with two G751-series models at the high end with prices between one and two thousand UK pounds. Meanwhile lower end gaming laptop models in the G56-series are priced as low as £600 equivalent in Taiwan.
MSI has a product proliferation strategy to cover all the gaming laptop sub-niches including "its top-end performance GT-series, thin-and-light GS-series, high-price/performance ratio GE/GX-series and entry-level GP-series," – currently a total of 24 models. However its defence of the gaming laptop market using this strategy is wavering it seems.
Unfortunately we don't have any data on the sales performance of other gaming laptops such as the (Gigabyte) Aorusrange, Razer's Blade laptops, the Acer Nitro range and the new HP Omen

ASUS announces Strix 7.1 true surround sound gaming headset

ASUS announces Strix 7.1 true surround sound gaming headset

ASUS has added a surround sound headset to its Strix range of owl-influenced PC accessories and components. TheASUS Strix 7.1 Surround Gaming Headset is described as a "top-of-the-line gaming headset," whichoffers users"incredibly-immersive surround sound and precise positioning," thanks to its 10 discrete neodymium magnet drivers and accompanying LED-lit DSP USB Audio Station.
ASUS Strix 7.1 surround sound gaming headset key features:
  • True 7.1 surround sound: Lifelike, immersive audio with 10 neodymium magnets and volume controls for each channel
  • Plug-and-play USB audio station: Works as a USB sound card with handy in-game audio controls
  • Static and breathing lighting effects: Express your gaming style, even in the dark
  • 90% environmental noise cancellation: Clear in-game communication
  • Four game-audio spectrum profiles: Enjoy immersive audio fine-tuned for first-person shooter (FPS), racing, and action/role-playing games (RPG)

With five speakers per ear this headset can offer true 7.1 surround sound – perfect for games – suggests ASUS. Furthermore the headset has comfortable breathable protein leather coated memory foam ear cushions.
ASUS bundles the headset with the dedicated plug-and-play USB audio station which is basically a USB sound card, it allows quick and intuitive audio adjustment controls and shares the same distinctive Strix styling as the headset. Four preset game-audio spectrum profiles are included covering the bases of FPS, racing, RPGs and more. The audio station has controls for each audio channel and the microphone level.
Finally to "express your gaming style" users can choose various lighting modes for both the owl eyes headset and the USB audio station. Unfortunately ASUS hasn't informed us with regard to pricing and availability details of the Strix 7.1 surround sound gaming headset.

NAOS QG smart gaming mouse tracks your heart rate and more

NAOS QG smart gaming mouse tracks your heart rate and more
A new gaming mouse wants to bring some of the biometrics used to optimise professional sports stars' performance to eSports gamers. The NAOS Quantified Gaming mouse uses built-in sensors to monitor, feedback and chart an array of biometrics hoping to make the user "become a better gamer". The sensors built-into the mouse can read, specifically, your heart rate, galvanic skin response and actions per minute.
Mionix Labs is the outfit behind the NAOS QG. Mionix asserts that tracking, monitoring and analysing selected biometrics can improve your gaming. Users of the NAOS QG mouse can toggle real-time sensor readouts which are displayed on an overlay on any game screen. See the control panel screengrab below.
You can watch your vitals as you game, and as you do so you are expected to modify your behaviour to regulate things like your stress levels and heart rate. After sessions you will be able to look back at your biometric data and try and make some sense of it thanks to the Mionix statistics collection display. An example is shown below.
Inevitably with a modern tech product, sharing is also implemented. Users can choose to share their physical reaction gaming data live on screen via Twitch, for example. Or you could just share a snapshot via Facebook, it's up to you.
Beyond the sensors, which come with open APIs, the mouse is said to be "a cutting edge optical gaming mouse with outstanding ergonomics, highest build quality and awesome performance." However no detailed specifications are listed to back-up that statement.
To make the NAOS QG from prototype to shipping product Mionix is looking for $100,000 in funding. The project seems to be going well - as in just one day, with 39 to go, it has achieved 20 per cent of that total in pledges. At the time of writing there's still some availability at the $79 level to get an early bird NAOS QG mouse at quite a discount on the"suggested retail price of $129". Prices include free worldwide shipping.
