MOTO G 2014HOW TO MANUAL UPDATE MOTO G (2014) XT1063 & XT1064 WITH LOLLIPOP 5.0 ANDROID OS – GUIDE


Hello Lollipop! for Moto G 2014 XT1063 and XT1064 smartphones. The best part of this is that it comes with the all the goodness of the new Android OS and is the official release directly from Google. While Google has already pushed the latest firmware update to its users, there are many users who haven’t yet released the update any would want to upgrade the OS. So let’s check out on what are the quick pre requisites which are mentioned below after which we will be checking out on what is the procedure with which you can apply this firmware update.
Note: Applying this firmware won’t root the device in any manner as this is the official firmware update released by Google for Motorola.
Pre Requisites:
  • Backup all the data in your Nexus device manually with the help of below mentioned steps and not with any other automated tools.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
  • Make sure that your device has 50% battery life and enable USB Debugging Mode which can be enabled from the Settings.

Procedure to Update Moto G 2014 XT1063 and XT1064:
  • Download the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS Package from here to your computer. After downloading the Zip file, you need to place the same in your device. Make sure that you are not placing this zip file deep into the sub folders.
  • Once downloaded, turn Off your phone so that it can be entered in the boot loader / recovery mode.
  • Recovery mode or the boot loader mode can be entered by pressing and holding the Volume Up + Volume Down and Power button together till the boot loader or the recovery screen appears
  • Now, you need to select the “Recovery” option with the help of Volume down button and select it by tapping the power button to boot the device in the recovery mode. Once the device boots in the Android’s system recovery, the same will be mentioned at the top of the screen.
  • Select the option of “apply update from SD card” and then choose the zip file which you have placed in your device. Follow the on screen instructions for applying the update in your Moto G.
  • It will take around 3 -4 minutes for applying the update and once the update is applied the device will reboot. It may take a while for setting up the apps and device as it’s the first time the device is booting after the firmware update.
Note: Just in case if your device gets in the boot loop mode or for gets stuck, all you need to do is to just repeat the above process by rebooting the device which can be done by long pressing the power button.
